A deep, dark, but sometimes lightly bluish green… that is RAL colour tone No. 6009. Its name, “Fir green”, describes where it is to be found. The lower, dense needles on the branches of a fir tree are often described with this colour. Simultaneously, however, it plays a role in the history of the German police. Until the mid-1970s, police cars in almost all old German states were painted in RAL 6009 before finally changing to a lighter shade of green. The shade belongs to the RAL Classic colours, meaning it was already on the original list of colour hues that was drawn up in 1927 by the “Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen” (RAL) organisation.
