Encounter with heart

Grandparents, mothers and fathers. Those of them who need support are particularly affected by the Corona crisis – and not just in terms of their health. For weeks they have been suffering from having to live in isolation. Now, the ban on visits is being relaxed in nursing and retirement facilities, which brings new challenges.

Nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics and similar facilities are faced with the task of providing visits for their residents and patients. These are allowed in a separate room, gardens and outdoor areas. They have to take the necessary hygienic protective measures (mouth-nose protection, hand disinfection, minimum distance) and to control their compliance as well as to register the contact data of the visitors. It is a mammoth task for the already heavily burdened health centers to set up suitable meeting places at short notice.

As a permanent alternative to fabric pavilions, tents and other improvisations, we offer a short-term roofing based on the waiting hall “Köln”. A convenient and barrier-free solution that is delivered fully assembled and unloaded directly to the right place with a truck-mounted crane.

The interior of the Shelter systems is divided in the middle by a transparent and speech-permeable partition that creates a physical barrier against infectious droplets exhaled by visitors or residents and patients. All surfaces are easy and safe to disinfect. Two benches are arranged so that a minimum distance of 2 m can be maintained at all times.

Side walls made of toughened safety glass (ESG) protect the structure against wind and rain, but allow barrier-free access on both sides and sufficient ventilation to further reduce the risk of infection. The transparent lining facilitates supervision from the outside. The interior can accommodate several people, making it suitable for family contact with more than two relatives, as far as they are allowed. In addition to safety, we have also thought about comfort: a heating element and lighting make the stay pleasant despite bad weather.

Like almost every “Köln” type structure, this one also has an LGA type test ex works, which eliminates the need for time-consuming structural tests that usually have to be carried out by the erector. The type test is designed for snow loads (Sk = 1.9 kN/ m²). The meeting room requires a level installation area of 4.5 x 2.5 m. The solid, corrosion-protected welded construction can be easily transported to another installation site after years of use.

The roofing already used at the AWO senior center in Waldbröl will be available in three weeks as a series product for 5,999 euros. Alternatively, the system can be rented at a low price of 149,- Euro/month for 36 months.
