VeloHUB

A bicycle parking with practical and social added value.

An initiative for the joint transformation of urban space

What could our cities look like with fewer cars and more open space? This is the question that the VeloHUB initiative is addressing together with citizens and other stakeholders. As a platform, it aims to reclaim urban space and shape the current transformation towards car-free cities. The focus is on the bicycle and the social aspect.

The prototype is a first physical implementation of her findings: In the space of a public parking lot, she is creating flexible hubs for sustainable mobility, social interaction, green community spaces, and micro business. At the next site, the modular concept will be further developed via participatory design processes. The initiative is looking for partners, supporters and interested parties who want to actively promote the traffic turnaround and implement a sustainable and social mobility solution.

Walkable and plantable roof

In addition to secure bike parking, the concept offers an optional second level of space for community interests, be it fitness, urban gardening, advertising space or even weather shelter. Green roofs, for example with sedum-planted cassettes made of recycled HDPE, and solar modules are also possible, making VeloHUB even more environmentally friendly.

(Loading) bench

Sitting down - after a bike ride or just because. This inviting space module offers cyclists and passers-by protection from wind and rain, while the smartphone can be charged inductively through the bench. Hidden under the bench: the VeloHUB electronics control center.

Bike lean-to

The lean-to bars are mounted at generous intervals and provide secure, shock-free support for bicycles and cargo bikes. Practical theft protection is provided by the integrated locks from ABUS. Sufficient illumination in the dark is provided by an LED light, which is powered by a solar panel and adds a colorful accent.

State-of-the-art safety technology

With the 9001 IoTect locking module, ABUS offers a smart security solution. In combination with the bike lean-to, for example, rental systems can be easily organized digitally. On site, the user operates the 9001 IoTect lock via app. The operator of the rental system can call up all parameters relating to the locks on a dashboard via the cloud-based platform "ABUS cMAP" and provide users with keyless access.

Repair column

Stay mobile, even if a tire is flat or something rattles: Bicycles can be quickly repaired at the Lo Minck repair station. It offers up to 12 special tools, a vandal-proof crank air pump and can also be equipped with a wash station thanks to a prepared water connection.

Battery charging cabinet

Power in the locker is provided by the Kemmlit Powerbox: The six lockers in the locker system each have two power sockets and two USB ports. The compartments offer enough space, for example, for an e-bike battery including charger, the bike helmet or a bag. Just plug everything in, lock it up, and then store, work, or meet friends worry-free. Freshly charged, the tour can then continue!
