Use funding - herald a mobility turnaround

Promotion of solar carports & charging infrastructure for companies

This brief documentation bundles current funding and framework conditions for the purchase of a solar carport and connected charging infrastructure in Germany - with a focus on North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

What support options are available?*

KfW loan "Renewable energies - Standard (270)"

  • Low-interest subsidized loan for PV systems (incl. battery storage possible)
  • Can also be used for PV carports on company premises
  • Application usuallyUsually via the house bank (pass-through principle)
  • Type of funding: subsidized loan

EEG remuneration / market premium

  • EEG subsidy rates apply to solar power fed into the grid, guaranteed for 20 years from commissioning
  • Applies to systems up to 100 kW (feed-in tariff) or up to 1 MW (values to be applied/market premium) - depending on the operating model (partial vs. full feed-in)
  • Type of subsidy: ongoing remuneration / premium in accordance with the EEG.

Federal funding for charging infrastructure (BMDV/BMWK)

  • Grants for the procurement/installation of charging infrastructure, incl. grid connection; partly publicly accessible charging points, partly non-public (in-house) - depending on the call for funding
  • Calls are made periodically; conditions (e.g. funding rate, upper limits, DC/AC) vary depending on the tender
  • Note: Some calls (e.g. for non-publicly accessible fast-charging infrastructure) are limited in time and may already be closed - new rounds will follow according to experience
  • Type of funding: Grant (investment funding, often de minimis).

NRW - State funding (progres.nrw) for companies

  • Subsidies for in-house charging points (AC/partly DC) incl. grid connection and control/load management
  • Up to 40% of eligible expenditure, often 20% for large companies
  • Details and availability per funding period - observe guidelines/budget limits
  • Type of funding: Grant

What else speaks in favor of the mobility transition for companies*

NRW solar obligation for commercial parking spaces

  • In NRW, a solar obligation applies to parking lots with ≥ 35 parking spaces (building application from 01.01.2022) - usually in the commercial sector.Usually in the commercial sector.
  • A PV carport fulfills this obligation and creates additional benefits (weather/heat protection, corporate sustainability, electricity for charging points).

Economic efficiency & decarbonization

  • Self-consumption of PV electricity avoids grid electricity costs
  • EEG remuneration for surpluses
  • Electrification of the fleet (GHG balance, reporting/CSRD) + Comfort for employees/customers through parking spaces protected from the weather.
