Investment funding in accordance with Section 12 ÖPNVG NRW

The special-purpose association go.Rheinland bundles the flat-rate investment funding from the state of NRW for local public transport and local rail transport in accordance with Section 12 ÖPNVG NRW¹.

This funding supports local authorities and transport companies in sustainably modernizing and expanding their local public transport infrastructure¹.

The multi-year investment funding program is continuously updated and since its introduction has included numerous infrastructure projects such as modernizing stops, mobility stations or bike-and-ride facilities at public transport stops¹.

Who can receive funding?

Donations can be forwarded to:

 

  • Cities, municipalities and municipal associations¹
  • Public and private transport companies¹
  • Railroad company¹

go.Rheinland examines and prioritizes submitted projects before they are included in a medium-term investment programme¹.

 

Funding objects according to § 12 ÖPNVG NRW

Funding is provided in particular for

 

  • Bus stops and central bus stations (ZOB) - new construction, modernization, barrier-free conversion of passenger shelters and driver cabins²
  • Mobility stations - multimodal hubs with a combination of bus/rail, bicycle and sharing services²
  • Bike+Ride (B+R) - including parking facilities and shelters²
  • Fixed information and communication systems - displays, digital passenger information²
  • Measures to improve functionality - accessibility, safety, quality of stay²

These funding measures directly address the current requirements of the municipal transport transition and support municipalities in implementing sustainable mobility concepts.

 

Funding conditions

  • Funding rate: Up to 90% of eligible construction and land acquisition costs¹
  • Planning and preparation costs: Flat-rate funding in accordance with funding guidelines¹
  • Planning security: annually updated multi-year program enables reliable implementation planning¹

Eligible infrastructure modules for your municipality

  1. Waiting halls and passenger shelters
    Modern, barrier-free and self-sufficient bus shelters improve comfort, safety and quality of stay at bus stops³. They offer weather protection, lighting, information areas and a uniform design - a typical object of funding in accordance with § 12 ÖPNVG NRW².
  2. Mobility stations
    Modular mobility stations connect different modes of transport, create orientation and strengthen the environmental network⁴ Elements such as bicycle parking facilities, shelters, digital displays or mobility steles² are clearly eligible for funding.
  3. Bicycle covers & Bike+Ride solutions
    Covered bicycle parking facilities are an essential component in promoting cycling and its connection with public transport⁵.Such facilities are considered eligible infrastructure in accordance with Section 12 ÖPNVG NRW².
