Who can receive funding?
The funding is aimed at municipal measures in cities, municipalities and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia. One of the prerequisites for inclusion in the funding program is that the project is ready for construction upon completion of planning and that construction can be expected to begin immediately. Detailed examination and approval are carried out by the responsible district governments.
Funding amount and program framework
For 2026, around 98.2 million euros are available for municipalities in the local mobility funding program. The funds will primarily support the construction and expansion of cycle paths, the construction of bicycle parking facilities and measures to improve road safety at junctions.
Important:
The specific eligibility for funding depends on the respective project, location, planning status and the applicable funding requirements. The official guidelines and the review by the responsible district government are decisive.

Our recommendation: Plan cycling infrastructure with WSM at an early stage
If you want to use funding for municipal cycling infrastructure, you should determine the specific requirements at an early stage: How many parking spaces are needed? Should the facility be open, covered or secured? Is additional charging infrastructure for e-bikes required? And what requirements arise from the location, use and design?
WSM supports local authorities in the selection of suitable systems and provides the necessary product information for further project planning.
