Heat Protection for Residents and Outdoor Areas
Prepared for Rising Temperatures
Rising temperatures and an increasing number of hot days pose particular challenges for senior living and long-term care facilities. Shaded common areas and outdoor spaces designed to accommodate the climate are therefore becoming increasingly important.
Canopies create shaded areas and reduce direct sunlight. When combined with a green roof, they create Outdoor spaces that remain more usable even on warm days while also offering environmental benefits.
Cool Naturally and Retain Rainwater
The pre-cultivated GreenPlus system uses evaporative cooling to create a more comfortable microclimate around the facility. At the same time, the vegetation acts as a natural heat shield in the summer and protects the underlying roof surface from direct sunlight.
With a thickness of approximately 85 mm, GreenPlus retains at least 20–22 liters of stormwater per square meter. In addition, the vegetation traps fine particulate matter, absorbs ambient noise, and creates new habitat for insects and birds.
The pre-cultivated system is installed with vegetation already in place and does not require a long establishment period. This allows existing or new roof structures to be directly enhanced with a climate- and environmentally-friendly building component.
